Artist Statement

Although I have been painting for years now, I still feel I am an immigrant in a new land.  I am exploring and experimenting to grow as a painter. The places of my life provide the inspiration for my paintings.   The marshes off Long Beach Island, New Jersey and the island cottages feature prominently in my work as well as coastal Maine.

While I have periods where I use watercolor, lately, I find I am exploring acrylic on canvas and additionally, I use luan board.  The texture of the grain adds a primitive quality to those painting, as well as providing a rich under color.  Using a limited palette of golds, greens and blues reflects the quality of light that is so resplendent at the shore and in Maine.

Recently, I have moved from landscapes to some architectural pieces.  These present new challenges.  The hard edges are a departure from the softness of a landscape.  At some point, I will return to some form of landscape painting.
